This is the oldest piece on the album, probably the first piece I wrote that departed from the stylistic confines of “academic” new music. I wrote it for a student who had a block where no matter what she was playing, she’d read a note, then look down and play that note, then look up and play the next note. It completely kept her from ever having any flow— so I decided I’d try to write a piece that demands flow.
